Let's build our first Democratic Constitution!

Why?

So that we the people decide what laws we want, not politicians.

What is a Democratic Constitution?

A DC is one that the people give to themselves. That means that only the people can approve it or change it by referendums, not politicians.

We have to give it to ourselves, because a constitution “given” to the people by another country, or by politicians is not a DC.

The basic principles of a DC are that:

1.                  Final power rests always with the people forever.

2.                  Only the people can approve their DC

3.                  Only the people can amend their DC.

Where does a DC exist?

The only country in the world that has a DC is Switzerland.

Some States of the USA have partial DCs.

How can we get a DC?

By showing how illegitimate the current system is.

We do that by:

1                    not voting for any politicians in any further general or local elections

2                    making sure we do vote in any Citizen’s Initiated Referendum

The way to not vote is to spoil the ballot paper. That can be done in many ways, such as not making any mark, or striking through the whole paper, or writing a message such as: “none of them.”

The aim is to have more spoiled ballot papers than valid ones. This then makes the election result invalid and illegitimate.

When this happens we will call for a Constitutional Conference to draw up New Zealand’s first Democratic Constitution. The delegates to this conference will not be politicians. The constitution will embed the basic rights of democracy in much the same  way that the Swiss constitution does.

When can we get our first DC?

Let’s aim to do this by 1 January, 2020
