Illegitimate laws
In
my submission opposing the criminalisation of normal parental discipline I
demanded that the proposal to repeal Section 59 be put to a referendum of the
people of New Zealand, as this change in the rules by which we live can only be
decided by all of us, not by the 0.005% of the electorate who squat in the thing
that calls itself “parliament”.
The basic response of those who oppose referendums is that we, the people, are incapable of grasping the complexities of issues that are “debated” on our behalf by the egomaniacs who roost and squawk in the thing that calls itself “parliament”.
Actually,
as recent “performances” amply indicate, the situation is exactly the reverse.
It ought to be a constitutional requirement that any proposed legislation
affecting the people’s rights and duties *must* be ratified by the people in
referendums.
Unfortunately, we have not yet risen up to grant ourselves a democratic constitution, so the contemptible farce continues. As the proposed repeal of Section 59 has *not* been ratified by the people so we, the people, have the duty to declare that "repeal" to be null and void.
It is illegitimate, it is illegal, it is *not* law. We have a duty to assist each other to disregard it.
